I don't want God...?

This website is for people who grew up in church,
often drug to church -
but quit going when they reached adulthood.
Welcome. This website exists for you.

As a kid, I was raised in Iowa, and sent to Sunday school by my mom, ages 5 though 14.
Then at 15, I could decide if I went.
I quit going at age 15 but then got interested again in my 20s.

I grew up - attending small-town Methodist and Presbyterian churches,
then re-entered Christianity via a Pentecostal church.
I attended a Lutheran church for a season during Martin Luther's 500th anniversary,
and attended MLK Jr's church in Atlanta on Palm Sunday, 2005.
I've visited churches church from Soldatna, Alaska to Albequerque, NM,
to Bogota Columbia and Arequipa, Peru,
and from Tucson, AZ to Atlanta, GA.
I am now attending a Southern Baptist church.

At 70 years old now, through the decades I've attended church,
I have seen many young people leave church.
I understand why some of them did it.
.
As an adult, I have found it necessary to leave a couple of churches,
but we shouldn't leave God.
God craves a relationship with each of us. That's why we exist.
Person-to-person offences don't justify ignoring God.

You can jump to the menu listed at the top of this page or first review the summary below:
.
The Bible:
Since Jesus no longer walks with us on Earth, we rely a lot on the Bible for guidance.
A lot of folks struggle with the Bible for different reasons.
People struggle with sorting out what they have heard about the Bible.
The best way to sort out the Bible is to read it for ourselves.
.
God:
Many people just don't like God or don't like His sovereignty.
This is a miserable situation for someone raised going to church.
Given the love God has for us, this is so confusing.
.
Family:
Some folks don't like the way their parents behaved while claiming to be Christian.
This section also deals with stepfamilies.

Church People:
Not all church people are thoughtful.
All people in church, members or visitors, have flaws.
Some come into church on Sundays with heavy burdens of their own.
Some people are wolves in sheep's clothing.
We will talk about this.

PKs and MKs: (pastor's kids and missionary's kids)
It's easy for others to think that PKs/MKs seem to get the best of everything,
but this is not always the case.
Some of them have downright difficult childhoods.
We will discuss both the envy of PKs/MKs and their difficulties.
.
Religious Cults:
A lot of de-churched people were simply raised in a religious cult.
Let's see if we can sort this out.

Sexual Abuse:
We'll talk about the horror of sexual abuse in the context of church life.

Embarrassment:
Some de-churched people are be embarrassed to be Christians, afraid of losing friends.
Some people were embarrassed by others IN church.
Both things need to be discussed.

Foster Care:
Foster care has given many young people brushes with religion
that they are still trying to sort out.
.
Personality:
While recognizing the complaints, I will also identify personality factors
of ordinary people, that helps create divides and strife in the church.

Basics:
There are several core issues that all have the same answer.
So instead of repeating myself, they are in the 'Basics' section

Beloved, there is a lot at stake here.
There really is.
I hope you keep reading.
More below...keep scrolling down like you read your cell phone
till you reach the bottom of each page.
