Knowing the Bible

Knowing the Bible - is like knowing how to drive a car.
No matter how much you are told about driving, you cannot know how to drive
until you get behind the steering wheel, start the car and drive.

And really knowing God is rooted in knowing the Bible:
* the Bible gives a blueprint of who God is
* the Bible is our Driver's Manual on how to operate our lives.
* the Bible is the repair manual - to fix our relationship with God when it breaks down.
KNOWING THE BIBLE

The Keystroke Bible

Simply put, the Christian Bible has two parts
The Old Testament - God's contract with humanity before Jesus rose from the dead.
and the New Testament - God's contract with humanity once Jesus rose from the dead.
These two contracts have different expectations -
just like different car warrantees have different boundaries.

Since the New Testament is God's current contract with humanity -
it is my current 'Driver's Manual', and is what I focus on the most.
Even so, the Old Testament is has the history of God's people - and God's enemies.
and rich with insights to God's personality.

When you feel like you've gotten everything from the Bible you can by reading it...
the next level of knowing the New Testament ... of knowing God
is to copy the New Testament - Word-by-word ...
reading and writing every word and phrase and sentence
whether it makes you happy - or sad - or mad - or scared.

In 2014, I typed out the New Testament, word-by-word, to learn the Bible better.
I did not include all the verse and chapter numbering, nor did I care about spelling.
My goal was to read and type every word in the New Testament,
knowing there would be parts that would confuse me or scare me.
I did it, and I know the Bible better because of it.

KNOWING THE BIBLE

Handwriting the New Testament

About 2020, I began to get hungry to copy the New Testament again.
But I really wanted to copy the New Testament by hand.

I did this in 2024, using 6 notebooks, with a major section in each notebook;
the four Gospels, Acts, and Revelation,
then flipped the notebooks over and wrote on the other side of the pages
filling out the notebooks with the Epistles as it suited me.
I would do a major section in a stretch, then copy enough epistles to fill that notebook.

You see, there are certain facets of learning that can only be done 'hands-on' -
like hair shops, carpentry, auto mechanics, etc.
And imagine how empty and ignorant marriage would be - if there were no 'hand-on' experiences.

I think this is why religion is so empty for so many people.
They don't get 'hands-on' with God.
Copying the Bible is one way to get 'hands-on' with God.

I dare you.
