I was in a Cult?

"I left my parents' church ten years ago, and now I suspect they are a religious cult."
.
Okay. That is possible.
While no church is perfect, a church has to be really off-target to be a full-fledged cult.
Yet, all religions but One are wrong.
.
1John says of us:
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!
The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known.
But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
3 All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.

No living person, no church nor any denomination, knows God perfectly.
But some religions don't know God at all, and the god they worship simply doesn't exist in any whit.
(God doesn't accept worship from cults)

Here are some of the ways God needs to be portrayed, to accurately know and worship Him:
1) The Creator of all things and people, He is without equal. He is the only God that will ever exist.
2) Omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent, He is without equal
3) God is a Holy Trinity: Father, Son-Jesus, Holy Ghost.
He is a Trinity as we are a trinity (Body, mind and spirit)
4) God spoke to His people through various means throughout various times,

Adam and Eve had only this command, given in Genesis 2:
"15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.
16 And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden;
17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”

But when God brought the Israelites out from slavery, He gave them the Book of Leviticus. Quite a difference.
Then Jesus brought the Gospels, which came into full bloom after Jesus' resurrection from the dead, which is an actual event.

5) There are a lot of false prophets who try to portray God as different from what the Bible says about Him.
But the New Testament is our current, final contract with God is, and tells us what God expects from us.

If you'll read through the New Testament and find the God of the New Testament
is different from the God you were taught in your old church, your voyage to the true God should be an enlightening passage.
Please, dig into the New Testament.
