Denominations

DENOMINATIONS

"Churches say we are supposed to love each other,
yet each denomination claims to know the best way to God
and they subtly smack-talk other denominations."

1 Corinthians 1:
"10 I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.
11 My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that
there are quarrels among you.
12 What I mean is this: One of you says,
“I follow Paul”;
another, “ I follow Apollos”;
another, “I follow Cephas;"
still another, “I follow Christ.”

13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul?"

Okay. I agree.

Here is another verse to consider, that I harp on throughout this website:

1 John 3:2
"Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known.
But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is."

I strongly believe that there will be no church denominations is Heaven.
Once we see Him, our minds will be perfectly aligned with God and we will need no one to explain God to us.
And we will each carry some shame, when we realize how far off our particular denomination
was from the true image of Christ and how He wanted churches to operate.
(This is why I advocate Keystroke Bibles, Christians typing out the New Testament,
word-for-word, to discover the truth of God's written Word.)
.
In the meantime, churches exist to help us along on our pilgrimage.
And differing denominations are proof that none of us know God as we ought to,
otherwise, 1 John 3:2 wouldn't be needed,
but, as individuals, we can know God better with churches and pastors
than we would without churches and pastors.
.
"What about people that insist their denomination is correct about everything?"

I refer you back to "I am of Paul" and "I am of Apollos."
Those were spiritually immature people, who wanted to believe that their leaders' knowledge of God was better than others.
(Truck-brand-loyalty and sports team-loyalty is a form of denominationalism)
.
1John 3:2 firmly declares the inadequacy of any living mortal to perfectly understand God.
Any denomination or pastor who claims to completely know God, is wrong.
Yet God wants us to attend church and work toward knowing Him better.
